Planning Issues

The committee have monitored and commented on more than 20 applications over the past year ranging from large scale development to applications for works to trees. In addition the SGA is one member of the Conservation Area Advisory Group which meets monthly to discuss planning applications in conservation areas across the borough as well as make representations to LBE on issues which effect the historic precincts such as street lighting, regeneration programmes, etc. Currently a management strategy for Southgate Green has been developed and the SGA is contributing to its implementation over the next few years.
Chestnut Trees on Cannon Hill
The Horse Chestnuts on The Green and Cannon Hill have survived the winter in reasonably good condition. Latest research suggests that there maybe a treatment for the virus in the pipeline. No further fellings are planned for this year but the position is being monitored on an ongoing basis.
