DESCRIPTION:This year marks 50 years of Conservation Areas\, which is the theme for Southgate Civic Week. \nAs part of Southgate Civic Week\, the Southgate Photographic Society held a competition with the theme of “50 years of Conservation”.  Their members submitted photographs focusing on the 10 Conservation Areas within the Southgate District Civic Trust area of interest. \nThe selection of the winning entry for the Photographic Competition “50 Years of Conservation” was announced last night at the opening event for Southgate Civic Week by Joanne McCartney Deputy Mayor of London and London Assembly Member together with newly elected MP for Enfield Southgate Bambos Charalambos. \nOver 150 photographs were submitted by members of Southgate Photographic Society.The photographs were taken within the ten designated conservation areas in Southgate and are displayed in the Southgate Station shop unit kindly leased at a peppercorn rent to Southgate District Civic Trust by London Underground Ltd. The competitions objective was to make a record at 50 years of the flora fauna\,people and the built environment within conservation areas in Southgate. \nThe winning Photograph taken by Christine Matthews \, titled Southgate Station is an appropriate choice.\nSouthgate Station is a Piccadilly Line London underground station \,Grade 2 listed \,designed in the Art Deco /Moderne style by Charles Holden in 1933. \nThe opening Civic Week event was attended by representatives of local civic societies\, clubs and associations including : \nSouthgate District Civic Trust\nSouthgate Photographic Society\nSouthgate Green Association\nEnfield Choral Society\nThe Walker Cricket Ground Trust\nFriends of The Minchenden Oak Garden\nJay Walks\nThe Enfield Society\nChrist Church Southgate\nSelborne Bowling Club\nSouthgate Councillors
